Long Island City

Long Island City is an ever-changing hodgepodge of glassy towers, framed rowhomes, brick multi families, brownstones and warehouses, perched on the edge of the East River. It was incorporated in 1870 as its own city comprising the villages of Astoria, Ravenswood, Dutch Kills Hunters Point, Splitsville, Middleton, Sunnyside Steinway and Bowery Bay. We don’t use most of those names anymore for neighborhoods, but some of them certainly are still very recognizable! Long Island City was later annexed to New York City in 1898 with the rest of the outer boroughs. The ease of getting to Manhattan is unbeatable. Whether it’s via subway ferry or your own 2 feet we have friends who walk over the Queensborough bridge to get to their jobs in Midtown on the regular. There are two sub neighborhoods of Long Island city: hunters point, which is closest to the water and Court Square, which is home to the infamous Citibank building (now known as One Court Square and says Altice at the top). Generally speaking, Long Island city is expensive in comparison with other Queens neighborhoods with new luxury buildings with lots of amenities sprouting up every other day. Get to Midtown in five minutes via ferry or 10 minutes via subway.
